Albukhary International University (AIU)

The Albukhary International University (AIU) located in the city of Alor Setar, Kedah, Malaysia is fully funded through the Albukhary Foundation, a Malaysian based organization with an international presence started in 1996 by Malaysian corporate entrepreneur and philanthropist Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Albukhary. AIU is a unique University for a number of reasons:-

- AIU is a totally charitable University. There are no tuition fees and all students receive full scholarships.

- Although AIU is founded by a Malaysian and is located in Malaysia, up to 80% of its students will be international, with a focus on students from Muslim minority countries. The balance will be Malaysian students irrespective of religious or ethnic backgrounds.

- AIU's requirements for entry are not targeted at academic high achievers. Instead students with reasonable academic standing, but who come from poor, disadvantaged, underprivileged or marginalized backgrounds are the ones who will be offered entry. These are students who are qualified for tertiary education, but are denied places either because of stringent academic requirements, or because they cannot afford the costs involved.

- All students of AIU are required to undertake planned Welfare and Service activities throughout their period of study. The objective is to inculcate in them the passion to Serve and Contribute.

- AIU staff, both academic and administrative will also be international in composition. They will be not only qualified and experienced, but equally if not more important, they must subscribe and practice the Philosophy, Aims and Objectives of the University.

- The curriculum will not be parochial, but will be based on universal principles and practices which will be relevant for the different societies from where the students come from.

The planning of the University is based on the Founder's twin Guiding Principles: DEVOTION TO GOD and COMPASSION FOR HUMANITY.

The programmes of AIU is based on the belief that the best education is one that recognizes and allows for individual differences, and one that engages both the Mind and the Heart. Our Academic programmes and Service activities will be in synergy to achieve this aim.

Academic Programmes

1) The Foundation Studies Programme which will commence in June 2011 is aimed at preparing students to be ready to undertake Undergraduate Degree courses. It will equip students with the following skills:-

o Linguistic
o Numerical
o Computing
o Communication
o Learning
o Critical Thinking

We believe that students so equipped will be able to enter any undergraduate degree course of their choice.

2) The Undergraduate Programmes will start in June 2012 through offerings in :-

i) School of Business Studies
- Bachelor of Accounting
- Bachelor of Business Administration

ii) School of Information and Communication Technology
- Bachelor of Computer Science (Networking)
- Bachelor of Computer Science (Software Engineering)

iii) School of Humanities and Social Science
- Bachelor of Social Science (Economics)
- Bachelor of Social Science (Development Studies)

IV) AIU hopes that through its philosophy and programmes, its graduates will be academically and professionally sound, whilst at the same time become imbibed with Humanitarian Values. In this way, our graduates will not only be gainfully employed and become successful professionals, but that they will also have the passion to serve and contribute to their respective societies. In the long run, although AIU is not a large University, with a maximum of 3,000 students, the quality and the kind of graduates we produce, will be able to make a Difference, to the bottom 20% of society.

Why Study At AIU

A Holistic Education for the 21st Century

AIU was set up based on the objective of providing quality education with humanitarian values to empower students from underprivileged and disadvantaged backgrounds to become successful in life not only through academic achievements but also to become strong in character so that they are disciplined, caring and giving citizens of the world.

Such an international campus environment will allow opportunities for networking with friends from every corner of the world. The multi cultural exchanges will enrich your experience of campus life and prepare you to be truly global citizens of the 21st century.

So much to learn and do

You’ll have a choice of wide range of campus clubs, organizations and activities, all of which offer opportunities to make friends, explore shared interests and develop leadership skills. At AIU, you will be engaged in meaningful daily extra curricular activities in the form of compulsory social work at the many social welfare facilities for the local underprivileged and disadvantaged. Such activities will develop you into strong characters capable of helping others in the future. There are also ample facilities to stimulate wholesome activities of the various student societies, sports clubs and intramural activities. All AIU students are required to participate in social work activities in the real working environment, either on campus or off-campus.

Resources and Facilities Students at AIU will find some of the best resources on campus with a wide range of purpose built buildings for the various functions and activities. Facilities like library, workshops, lecture theatres, computer and language laboratories, comfortable hostel accommodation, dining halls and cafeterias, health care facilities, hotel, and shopping centre are all within the walking campus.

International atmosphere

Limkokwing University of Creative Technology (referred to as LUCT, LKW or just Limkokwing) is a private international university with a presence across three continents: Africa, Europe and Asia. With its main campus in Malaysia, the university has over 30,000 students from more than 150 countries, studying in its 11 other campuses in Botswana, Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Lesotho, Swaziland and the United Kingdom.

Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr Lim Kok Wing is the founder and president of Limkokwing University of Creative Technology.

He established Wings Creative Consultants in 1975. Within 5 years the company grew from 4 employees to 30 and the turnover was RM4 million. In 1988 the company merged with BBDO and the Wings/BBDO alliance was formed. After winning awards with his previous company he continued to do so with his new partners. Billings rose to RM40 million by 1992, but he ended the partnership to start Limkokwing Integrated. He diversified into a range of communication services and at this time he set up what is known today as the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology.

Limkokwing Institute of Creative Technology (as it was then known) was established in 1991 by founder and namesake Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr Lim Kok Wing.[3] Its first campus consisted of a few bungalows in Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur.

INTI International University

INTI International University (IU), Laureate International Universities is a private university located in Putra Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia, 45 minutes from Kuala Lumpur. It was known as INTI University College until 31 May 2010 when the Higher Education Ministry announced its upgrade to university status. It is owned by INTI Education Group which has formalised its partnership with Laureate International Universities (the world’s largest and fastest growing private education network) in 2008. Programmes offered in IU include pre-university and foundation studies, diploma, degrees (home-grown and overseas transfers), and postgraduate degrees.

The name INTI was chosen to reflect the college's emphasis on quality in education — the hallmark of INTI College. The name INTI means "innermost" in Latin. The college motto, 'Quality, the essence of INTI', reflects the ongoing vision of INTI's leaders and staff members.

The college opened in 1986 in Bangunan Sim Lim, Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur. At its inception, the college enrolled only 37 students, but within 18 months the student population exceeded 400. Enrolment continued to climb, and in 1989 the college was re-located to Jalan Sungai Besi, Kuala Lumpur.

Two years later, with more than 900 full-time students, the college established a permanent campus: INTI College Subang Jaya (ICSJ). In 1991 and 1996 INTI opened branch campuses in Kuching, Sarawak and Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

INTI College Malaysia (ICM), the main campus, was established on 82 acres (330,000 m2) of land in Putra Nilai in 1998. In March 2000, INTI acquired International College Penang which is strategically located in the Bukit Jambul education township. In 2004, INTI continued to expand with three new associate campuses: Genting INTI International College, Metropolitan College and PJ College of Art & Design. To date, INTI has nine associate campuses in Malaysia.

On 4 September 2006, ICM received the Ministry of Higher Education's approval for upgrading to university college status. ICM became INTI University College (INTI-UC).

On 1 June, 2010, INTI-UC receives its upgrade to a full university from Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

In 2008, INTI merged with Laureate International Universities, becoming the first university in Malaysia, chosen to be Laureate International Education Group member.

On average, more than 30% of INTI-UC Engineering alumni graduating from UK and Australian universities such as University of Leeds, University of Bradford, University of Manchester, University of Nottingham, University of Birmingham, University of Adelaide, etc. received 1st Class Honours each year since 1998. For example, in the recent past:

* 37% of INTI students obtained 1st Class Honours in Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Adelaide in 2004.
* 31% of INTI students who attended University of Birmingham and University of Leeds in 2004 obtained 1st Class Honours.

The total enrolment for IU now stands at over 5,000.

Sunway University

Sunway University (formerly Sunway University College) is a university in Malaysia. The university offers postgraduate and undergraduate programs, and has a support system for international students. The campus has more than 120 classrooms and in addition it has 15 lecture halls. It was founded in 1987 as Sunway College and upgraded to Sunway University College in 2004 by the Malaysia Ministry of Education. In December 2010, it became Sunway University.

Sunway University is unique among private higher education institutions in Malaysia in that it is operated by a not-for-profit Foundation. Tuition fees are affordable and all operating surpluses are re-invested into the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation for further development in education. The Foundation has to date awarded more than USD12 million in scholarships and grants to deserving Malaysian students since its creation in 1997.

Sunway has a strategic partnership with Lancaster University (UK) and offers undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes. Lancaster staff have already been to Sunway for staff development and Continuing Professional Development workshops. Students study at Sunway, but are awarded a degree certificate from both institutions.[1]. Admission requirements are stringent to mirror its collaboration with Lancaster University, one of the UK's top ranked universities. The validation of Sunway University degrees by Lancaster University further assures that the quality standards of its degrees are maintained.

Courses cover Accountancy, Nursing, Psychology, IT, Hotel & Tourism Management and Pre-University foundation courses. Foreign universities affiliated to Sunway University include Lancaster University (UK), Manchester University (UK), Monash University (Aust), Victoria University, Australia and Western Michigan University (USA).

Sunway's accountancy training institute has produced students who have excelled in exams such as ACCA (UK) and the ICAEW (Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales). All the Big Four accounting firms have sponsored their professional staff to study with Sunway.

Sunway University is under the Sunway Education Group which includes colleges in Ipoh, Johor Bahru and Kuching, Sunway International School (Canadian curriculum education) and Monash University Sunway Campus (a joint-venture with Monash University, Australia). Sunway Education Group claims an enrolment of more than 16,000 with about 4,000 in Monash University Sunway Campus. [2]. On average about 30% of both Sunway University and Monash are international students.

The long term vision is for Sunway University to become the Harvard of the East.

Sunway International School

Sunway Education Group operates Sunway International School (SIS) - the only Canadian curriculum school in Malaysia. Established in 2008, SIS conducts Grades 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 (Grade 12 is under Sunway College Kuala Lumpur). Intakes are in January and July each year. Teachers are Canadian trained expatriates. SIS is regulated by the Ontario Canada Ministry of Education and Malaysia Ministry of Education. Full boarding facilities are available for students living away from home.

The campus occupies 22 acres (89,000 m2) in Bandar Sunway, Petaling Jaya, the RM120 million campus is fully equipped with academic, hostel and sports facilities and is among the largest private institutions in Malaysia.

The main campus comes complete with wireless access coverage (Wi-Fi) available throughout the university building that covers classrooms, lecture halls, cafeteria, library, concourse and open areas.

There are also sports facilities such as an Olympic-sized swimming pool, tennis, badminton and basketball courts, full-sized field for soccer, rugby and cricket as well as clubs and societies ranging from cultural and international, leisure and recreational to religious interest groups.

The ground breaking ceremony was held on 9 March 1991, and in December 1992 the institution moved to its new campus. By January 1993, all academic sessions were being conducted there. The grandest moment in the history of Sunway University came on 29 April 1993 when the campus was officially opened by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the 4th Prime Minister of Malaysia.

This event emphasized the aspiration of Sunway University to become a world-class institution and the leader in private education in Malaysia and the ASEAN region, in line with the Prime Minister's vision that Malaysia should become a centre for academic excellence.

With excellent infrastructure and resources, Sunway University is well placed to meet the growing demand for high quality tertiary education, and address the challenges and goals of Malaysia's Vision 2020.

Sunway University has achieved enviable success in producing students of outstanding calibre. Many have achieved prestigious awards. It is therefore no surprise that Sunway University has received the praise and accolades of VIP visitors, including Malaysian and foreign dignitaries and representatives from overseas institutions and academic partners, and many distinguished professors of international repute who have delivered guest lectures.

Five Star Rating

In 2010 Sunway University was awarded a rating of “Excellent” in the national SETARA rating system, placing it in the leading group of Malaysian public and private universities on par with the foreign branch campuses and the best public and private universities in the country, in terms of the quality of our teaching and learning.

Sunway College

Sunway College was established by its Founder, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Jeffrey Cheah, AO in 1987. Within a short span of time, Sunway became a popular household name as a private higher education institution in Malaysia. Being one of the pioneers of the twinning and credit transfer programmes, Sunway offered many Malaysian and international students the opportunity of obtaining well recognised qualifications of foreign universities from the UK, Australia and the USA through studying at Sunway in Malaysia. As a result of its quality provision and track record of good academic results, Sunway College was upgraded to Sunway University College in 2004.
